Envelope Art
Philip Carey was a lifelong fan of “mail art,” using envelopes, postcards, and packages as his canvases. He used envelope art to turn the medical necessity of several years of dialysis treatments into an art residency, re-imagine the biblical story of Esther , and chronicle the terrors and frustrations of the Covid-19 pandemic, much to the delight of the recipients as well as the fine employees of the U.S. Postal Service.
