“As a kid, I was so lucky that my parents loved to hike and picnic around Southern California and beyond. When my brothers were old enough to carry their own backpacks, we began to take backcountry hikes up into the eastern side of the Sierra. We’d spend a week in one area, then head down the trail to a town, get a swim or shower and some cafe food, then head up another trail and explore another mountain range. These trips set the standard for what great vacations were all about. The feelings and images of these adventures, sore feet and a rocky bed, soaking rains and smoky campfires, are still easy to remember and fun to illustrate.”
