Carey Bros. Swim Out to Shipwreck of SS Dominator
2015 • 12” x 12” x 1” • ink & Prismacolor pencil on cut card stock
"I'm not sure how my parents survived having 3 typically fearless teenage sons. We grew up on the Southern California beaches, snorkeling and spear-fishing for dinner, and surfing and SCUBA diving, so it wasn't strange that we decided to board the shipwrecked SS Dominator just off shore in Palos Verdes. (I'm pretty sure we didn't tell our parents before doing that!) The ship was still filled with sinking cargo, and was breaking up on the rocks, waves crashing over the decks and groaning as the hull cracked— that's my memory, anyway. The artwork may or may not be an accurate depiction of the setting, but it's definitely what's in my memory."
